Editorial Focus
Unarguably, security is the greatest need of man. All other needs like the need for shelter, food, clothing, etc, come only after the security need has been met. In the world today, there are many cases of inter/intra country, community and religious crises. When these wars and crises occur, the media feed fat on the negativities that trail such wars; development is halted, and society retrogresses.
It is agreed by experts that communication is life and the media form the main channel of most human communication. What we know or do not know can make or mar us. It is also agreed that the media can play a key role in m a i n t a i n i n g / e n s u r i n g p e a c e a n d creating/escalating conflicts, crises/wars.
The role the media play depends on who owns the media and where his or her bread is buttered.
It is in recognition of the pivotal role the media can play in ensuring security and economic growth which is central to development that this Journal is dedicated to media, security, development, economy and ICT.
The Journal, through well-researched articles from contributors, examines what the media did, what the media are doing and what the media need to do to achieve the security that has continued to elude the world. Nations vote billions of dollars for security even when there is no war because arm manufacturers must sell their arms and may need to incite wars. How can the media expose and challenge this?
This Journal is a bi-annual journal and welcomes well-researched articles in the area of media and security, conflict management, international communication and diplomacy.
As a result of the interconnectivity between security, ICT, economy and development, the Journal also welcomes articles in the area of ICT, economy and development. Our focus in all these is the African continent in general and Nigeria in particular. It is the vision of this Journal to see how the media can contribute to the development of this great continent which has stagnated because of insecurity and unhealthy economic policies.
